"For his work on the British flora, an attractive and, in the main, well-illustrated book, he employed the services of two local artists - Isaac Russell (an Oxford glass painter) and C. Matthews. Though these men were not trained scientists, they acquired by degrees a good working knowledge of botany; many of the plates - which were coloured by Baxter’s daughters and daughter-in-law - are superior to those in Sowerby" (Blunt).
