Grossulariaceae - Ribes grossularia
Grosse lobée & mignone From: Traité des arbres fruitiers by Henri Louis Duhamel du Monceau. Paris, [1807-] 1835, (plate 187-188). Stipple-engraving printed in colour and finished by hand after Turpin and engraved by Gabriel (sheet 360 x 455 mm; under passe-partout). Text enclosed. € 220
One of the finest and rarest books on
fruit, with many beautiful plates (Dunthorne). It is virtually an independent
work, although it took its title from Duhamel’s Traité. The magnificent
plates are after Pierre-Antoine Poiteau and Pierre Jean François Turpin. A team
of twenty engravers was involved and the colour-printing was by Langlois, the
great French printer who supervised much of Redouté’s work.* Pritzel 2467; Dunthorne 101; Nissen BBI 551; Great flower books p. 55; Stafleu & Cowan 1548.
