were published from 1855-1856 of this finely illustrated work about the
horticulure and floriculture of especially Indonesia. The fine plates are by J.
v. Aken, A. Brouwer, Q.M.R. Ver Huell and A.J. Wendel, lithographed by A.J. Bos,
Riocreux, P.W.M. Trap, A.J. Wendel and Wohlfart. The author, Willem Hendrik de
Vriese (1806-1862), a Dutch botanist, studied medicine in Leiden, practicing and
lecturing in Rotterdam, was professor of botany in Amsterdam and travelled in
